Memory Book for Maria
<

The following text is the introduction used for the Memory Book for Maria, written by Maria's son, Christopher Kreb:

February 13, 2007

This book was created for my mother, Maria Kolb. The original idea was to give her something that she would cherish forever. The idea was to give it to her for her 60th birthday, on February 13, 2004. That didnŐt work out. The project became more and more elaborate over time and you are holding the final result in your hands. I think the original concept was executed to its full potential. In the pages of this book you will find the thoughts and feelings of many of Maria's closest friends and relatives. Everybody who contributed to this book was asked to make a page expressing anything they wanted to about Maria. Some people made multiple pages, while others contributed only a single meaningful photograph. Birthday wishes were expressed by all, but her birthday was only the excuse to honor her. I won't write about how wonderful Maria is and how many lives she has touched - thatŐs what the book is for. The book speaks well as to what Maria is and what she means to all of us. I am sure this will become a treasured heirloom and bring much joy to her in the future.

Many people contributed to the successful completion of this book, and they deserve a special "thank you" right at the outset:

The concept for this book came from Lisa Owen. She was responsible for hatching the idea, organizing the mailings, collecting the responses, and, above all, designing the book. She gathered and organized all the photos, as well as the memorabilia found within. She researched and collected all the materials for putting the book together. She also designed the basic page layout and the box in which the book is to be stored.

Angelica Busque carried out Lisa's vision. She came to project very late, but without her the book would have never been completed. Her unique talent and interest in book creation and design made her the perfect person to complete this project. She used Lisa's notes as a starting point and then added her own unique vision and talent to the project.

The professional photography found within is the work of Jack Kraig, who did both formals and candid portraits at the party. Additional photos are courtesy of Liz Tubbs and Liz Hartman, both of whom took many photos at the party and at the Blackhawks game the following afternoon.

Of course, everybody who contributed made the content of the book possible. This project really brought out the best in many of the contributors. Many were able to express their love and admiration of Maria for the first time. Without the contributors, there would be no book.

On behalf of everybody, I am proud to present you with this book.
