Martin Luther King Day, Jr. Day Peace Wall

"I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless night of racism that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become reality. I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word."

-Martin Luther King, Jr.

The Peace Wall is a collaboration by students from Peabody Elementary School, KIPP: Ascend Charter Middle School, Noble Street Charter High School, and the Northwestern University Settlement House School Age Programs.

On January 17th, 2005 AmeriCorps Project YES! held a non-violence fair reflecting on Martin Luther King, Jr.'s legacy of non-violence as a means to confront socieal problems. The Peace Wall was created to show this community that "Violence is immoral because it thrives on hatred rather than love." As part of the event, the students were asked to write on the wall of what they have learned throughout the day and what they will take home with them. The wall you see here is the end result of their response.
